- 12:00 AM9:40 PMGU LATAM ConferenceJumbo Life Calendar | Georgetown University
"GU LATAM is the Georgetown University Conference on Latin America and the Caribbean
(LAPA). This two-day annual student-run event addresses the region’s most prominent challenges
and opportunities from academic, political, and business perspectives. The 2024 edition will be
held on November 12 and 13 at the new McCourt School of Public Policy building.
This year, the conference will gather a range of regional experts seeking to answer the question,
"What does sustainable development mean for Latin America in 2024?", from a practical policy
standpoint. Conceptually, sustainable development was defined by the Brundtland Report (UN,
1987) as a development approach that meets the needs of the present without compromising the
ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It was proposed as a way of going beyond
the dichotomy of economic growth vs environmental predation, understanding that there is no
future without the environment in the equation. It includes economic growth, social inclusion, and
environmental protection."
