Tufts ISA Yalda Night
Jumbo Life Calendar | MPR - Curtis Hall
Tufts ISA invites you to experience the rich traditions of Yalda Night!
Yalda Night (Persian: ?? ????, Shab-e Yalda) or Chelleh Night (also spelled Chellah Night, Persian: ?? ????, Shab-e Chelleh) is an ancient festival celebrated on the winter solstice. This tradition is observed in Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Iraqi Kurdistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Dagestan, and Turkey. Yalda marks the longest night of the year and symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness as days gradually become longer. It is celebrated with gatherings, poetry, music, storytelling, and feasting on seasonal fruits like pomegranates and watermelons, which hold cultural significance in the festivities.
Join us on December 13th at MPR Curtis Hall to learn about Yalda, celebrate together, and enjoy delicious Persian food, vibrant music, and captivating dance performances.
