Tisch College Solomont Speaker Series: Ibtihaj Muhammad

Join a conversation on sports, women empowerment and advocacy with Olympic fencing medalist, entrepreneur, author and activist, Ibtihaj Muhammad. An Olympic bronze medalist, five-time Senior World medalist and World Champion in fencing, Ibtihaj became the first American woman to compete in the Olympics in hijab and the first Muslim-American woman to win an Olympic medal in 2016. She later became the face of Nike’s first ever Pro Hijab designed for Muslim female athletes.

Her deep commitment to creating visibility and equity for women and girls, including underrepresented groups like those who wear hijab, inspires her work and activism. Ibtihaj is the author of her memoir PROUD: My Fight for an Unlikely American Dream, and a series of New York Times bestselling children’s books: The Proudest Blue: A Story of Hijab & FamilyThe Kindest Red: A Story of Hijab and Friendship, and The Boldest White: A Story of Hijab & Community. She also serves as a sports ambassador with the U.S. Department of State’s Empowering Women and Girls through Sport Initiative and was nominated by President Obama as a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Health & Nutrition.
