This training course is designed to provide tools and techniques on how to react to an active shooter / active threat. This training expands upon information found in the Tufts University Emergency Response Guide. This platform is modeled around the Avoid, Deny, Defend response to an active shooter. Avoid: Trust your instincts and don’t delay. Get away as quickly as possible Deny: If you can’t flee, obstruct or deny the active shooter access to your area Defend: If all else fails…Fight as a last resort and only when your life is in imminent danger This class is open to Tufts students, faculty, and staff. Join a conversation on sports, women empowerment and advocacy with Olympic fencing medalist, entrepreneur, author and activist, Ibtihaj Muhammad. An Olympic bronze medalist, five-time Senior World medalist and World Champion in fencing, Ibtihaj became the first American woman to compete in the Olympics in hijab and the first Muslim-American woman to win an Olympic medal in 2016. She later became the face of Nike’s first ever Pro Hijab designed for Muslim female athletes. Her deep commitment to creating visibility and equity for women and girls, including underrepresented groups like those who wear hijab, inspires her work and activism. Ibtihaj is the author of her memoir PROUD: My Fight for an Unlikely American Dream, and a series of New York Times bestselling children’s books: The Proudest Blue: A Story of Hijab & Family, The Kindest Red: A Story of Hijab and Friendship, and The Boldest White: A Story of Hijab & Community. She also serves as a sports ambassador with the U.S. Department of State’s Empowering Women and Girls through Sport Initiative and was nominated by President Obama as a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Health & Nutrition. What are the long-term effects of excessive sentencing on individuals, families and communities? Join a panel conversation to explore the state of excessive sentencing in the United States as well as in countries like Finland and Norway, and learn about diverse policies in California and Massachusetts that have led to a decline in excessive sentencing. Panelists will include two students from the MyTERN Program at Tisch College, award-winning writer and prison reform activist Kenneth Hartman, and renowned civil rights lawyer Michael Meltsner. This event is hosted by the Tufts University Prison Initiative of Tisch College (TUPIT) in collaboration with MA activist Bob Marra and Saint Susanna’s Prison Ministry program. Register now!

The Graduate Student Council is organizing a Halloween/Costume party in Curtis Hall Multipurpose Room 101 on October 24 (Thursday) from 7pm-9pm. There will be food, snacks, and light refreshments. Come with your besties and feast with us, play games, get to know each other, join the costume contest and win a prize! We are also organizing a winter clothing drive to support a local shelter. For each item of clothing you donate, you'll receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a prize. Your contributions will make a difference in helping those in need!
