Apple picking is a fall harvest tradition that grew out of farming life in North America and Europe. Apples were introduced to New England by European settlers in the 1600s, who brought seeds and saplings from abroad. Over time, orchards became central to local communities, not just as food sources but also as social gathering spaces.
Orchards began inviting families, students, and visitors to pick their own apples right from the trees; celebrating the harvest season while connecting people back to the land. Today, apple picking is seen as a hallmark of autumn, especially in New England. Beyond gathering fruit, it’s about enjoying the crisp air, the changing leaves, and seasonal treats like cider and donuts. For many, it represents a nostalgic, cozy, and communal way to welcome the fall.
This year, Graduate Students Council is inviting all the graduate students to the Apple picking event that will take place on 11th October from 12 pm till 4pm at Honey Pot Hill Orchards. We will be having a party agenda consisting of hay wagon rides, games, Apple picking , getting lost in hedge maze, visiting the farm animals and more. Students are encouraged to dress comfortably for the outdoors; layers, sneakers/boots, and a reusable bag or tote for carrying apples are recommended. The orchard is open between 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Students will be able to sign up for group bus transportation to the orchard, leaving from the Tufts University at the Mayer Campus Center Medford at 10:00 AM and returning around 4:00 PM. Students may arrive independently and leave the orchard before 4:00 PM, but the group bus will only be making ONE trip back to Tufts University, Mayer Campus Center at 4:00PM.
Come celebrate with us; pick some apples, enjoy cider, make new memories with fellow graduate students. Learn more at http://tufts.presence.io/event/apple-picking-2025 - Oct 181:00 PMUrinetown: The MusicalJumbo Life Calendar | Cohen Auditorium
