Tufts Athletics Ramp Up Postseason Competition

Men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s tennis, and softball are moving forward in NCAAs, plus other updates

Tufts student-athletes have been busy and successful this season, with a number of teams and individuals active in the postseason.

Men’s Lacrosse

Tufts men’s lacrosse outscored visiting St. Lawrence University 5-0 in the first quarter and fended off multiple rallies from the Saints to earn a 14-8 win on May 11 in the 2025 NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse tournament third round action on Bello Field.

With the victory, the undefeated Jumbos (20-0) will return to Bello Field to take on No. 7 Gettysburg College in the NCAA quarterfinals   Saturday afternoon. Tufts’ win was its 25th straight, dating back to the NCAA tournament last season.

Prior to the national tournament, the team won this year’s New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championship on May 4. Junior attack Jack Regnery was named the 2025 NESCAC Player of the Year; he leads Tufts scoring with 72 points from 53 goals and 19 assists in the 13 games he has played to date. Regnery is the seventh player from Tufts to be named the NESCAC Player of the Year.

Women’s Lacrosse

The Jumbos had no issue in knocking off host University of Scranton 17-5 in the 2025 NCAA Division III second round on May 11. The Jumbos are now 19-1.

They come home to host the NCAA third round and quarterfinals, first taking on Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in the NCAA third round at 1:30 p.m. on May 17 at Bello Field. The Jumbos won the NESCAC championship on May 4, topping Wesleyan 13-7.

Men’s Tennis

In the NCAA third round, No. 3 Tufts men’s tennis beat Goucher College 4-0 on May 10, and the following day knocked off a strong Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers lineup 4-1.

The Jumbos will travel to Claremont, California next week to play the No. 6 Emory University Eagles in the NCAA quarterfinals. The match will be played May 23 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College. Additionally, men’s tennis players Vuk Vuksanovic and Javier Gonzalez were selected to compete in the NCAA individual championships (singles and doubles) that same weekend.

Vuksanovic was recently named the 2025 NESCAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year—only the second Jumbo to garner the honor—and the Tufts coaching staff was named NESCAC Staff of the Year.

Women’s Tennis

After a 4-0 NCAA Division III first-round rout of Nichols College on May 9, the No. 15 Tufts women’s tennis team fell in a tightly contested match to the No. 7 MIT Engineers on May 10, 4-1. The MIT squad had won its eighth consecutive NEWMAC championship and compiled a 16-2 regular season record. Tufts was responsible for one of the two losses, beating the Engineers 5-2 in March. The Jumbos ended their season 16-7.

Softball

The Tufts softball team won twice at home on May 11 to capture the program’s 15th NESCAC title. As they have done many times this season, the top-seeded Jumbos came from behind to win both games. They took the morning semifinal against Colby College 6-4, then won 8-3 in the championship game against Wesleyan University later in the day.

The NESCAC title is the first for the Jumbos since 2021. With the victory, Tufts (28-13) secured an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament. No. 2 Tufts plays No. 3 Rensselaer on May 15, with a 1:30 p.m. game at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey.

Women’s Rowing

The women’s rowing team dominated the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) on Lake Quinsigamond on May 11, repeating as NESCAC and NIRC Points Trophy champions.

The Jumbos won grand finals in the first, second, third, and fourth varsity eights and accumulated a team total of 195.00 points. In the Points Trophy standings, which represent overall team performance, Tufts was well ahead of second-place Wesleyan University (172.00) and third-place Williams College (171.00). The NIRC Points Trophy victory is Tufts’ third in a row.

Men’s Rowing

The men’s rowing team won the Points Trophy at the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) on May 11 on Lake Quinsigamond.

Representing the best overall team performance at the regatta, Tufts tallied a 170.00 score in the Points Trophy to defeat conference rivals Williams College (163.00) and Trinity College (159.00). It is the second time Tufts has won the NIRC Points Trophy, the first coming in 2017. The Jumbos had been second for the NIRC Points Trophy last year and third in 2023.

The NESCAC Championship was also contested on May 11 in first varsity racing. After winning the third heat with a 5:49.035 mark to get into the grand final, the Jumbos were third overall among 18 teams and third out of eight conference squads with their 5:41.930 finals time. It marked the Tufts 1V8’s first podium finish (top three) at NIRC.

Men's rowing earned an at-large berth into the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Division III National Championship Regatta coming up May 30-31 on Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey.
