Join a conversation with economist, conservative thought leader and author, Oren Cass. Cass is the founder and chief economist at American Compass, a conservative think tank whose mission is to restore an economic consensus that emphasizes the importance of family, community, and industry to the nation’s liberty and prosperity.

Cass previously worked as a management consultant in Bain & Company’s Boston and Delhi offices, while earning his J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School. While still in law school, Cass became Domestic Policy Director for Governor Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, editing and producing the campaign’s “jobs book” and developing its domestic policy strategy, proposals, and research. Eizenstat in The Art of Diplomacy: How American Negotiators Reached Historic Agreements that Changed the World (Rowman & Littlefield, May 28, 2024), recounts America’s most significant and consequential negotiations over the past 50 years. These include efforts to resolve conflicts from the Middle East peace process to “The Troubles” in Northern Ireland to lingering issues of World War II, from the reunification of Germany to justice for Holocaust survivors. Eizenstat addresses the use of American military force as an instrument of diplomacy, from Vietnam to the Balkan Wars in Bosnia and Kosovo, to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, drawing lessons that are applicable to today’s conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
