Led by Sam Sommers, Professor of Psychology at Tufts. How accurate is eyewitness testimony? How effective are polygraph tests? What factors influence a jury's deliberations? Drawing on perspectives from various areas of the field, psychological scientists have examined wide range of topics within the legal system, including police interrogations, lie detection, eyewitness memory, jury selection, jury decision-making, and the insanity defense. In this mock class, we will discuss highlights from this growing area of research, as well as the general benefits and limitations of efforts to apply psychological research to the real-world domain of the legal system.
