Gorelik A D3CA Men's Sport Athlete of the Year Nominee

HADLEY, Mass. - Four men's sport student-athletes from NESCAC institutions have been nominated for the inaugural Division III Commissioners Association Men's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year award. The award recognizes graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service, and leadership. A committee of conference administrators will select the NESCAC's representative.

Isaac Gorelik, Tufts Men's Tennis
Gorelik, a member of the Tufts men's tennis team, graduated with a degree as a double major in data science and applied mathematics. A member of Tufts' Tau Beta Pi Engineering Society and eight-time Dean's List honoree, he is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree. He was also the recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 Award at the 2021 Division III Men's Tennis Championship, which is given to the individual with the highest GPA at the site of the finals.

A two-time ITA All-American, Gorelik was a semifinalist at the 2022 NCAA Singles Championship after reaching the Round of 16 in 2021. A co-captain as a senior, he played No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles for a Jumbo team that earned the program's first NCAA berth since 2004 and reached the semifinals for the first time in program history. Gorelik was an All-NESCAC First Team selection as a junior and senior.

Off the court, Gorelik served as a Green Dot Ambassador and was a member of TAMID at Tufts, a group that facilitates experiential education and cultivates relationships to create a strong, lasting connection to Israel for emerging professionals. He was also a member of the Tufts Blockchain Club and the Tufts Standup Comedy Collective.

Stan Morris, Middlebury Men's Tennis
Morris, a member of the Middlebury men's tennis team, recently graduated with summa cum laude honors as an economics major. He was a three-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree and also earned ITA All-Academic honors during his career.

Morris, a two-time ITA All-American, won the Division III Men's Singles title last month and captured the ITA Cup Singles crown in the fall of 2021. He was named the Northeast Senior of the Year and the overall Senior of the Year by the ITA in 2022 while also garnering a spot on the All-NESCAC First Team in both singles and doubles.

A team captain in 2021-22, Morris posted a program-best 55 career wins as a Panther and was the No. 1 singles player for two NESCAC Championship teams (2019, 2022). Middlebury advanced to the NCAA Semifinals in the team competition in both 2019 and 2022 and Morris finished as the top-ranked player in Division III this season.

Off the court, Morris contributed to a local toy drive in the Middlebury community, assisted in an annual Girl Scout cookie distribution event, helped out at a retirement home to clean up the grounds, and served as a first-year student-athlete leadership program graduate.

Aidan Ryan, Williams Cross Country and Track & Field
Ryan graduated from Williams College with a degree in physics. He was a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2020 and an eight-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree. He also earned USTFCCCA Academic honors in cross country all four years.

Ryan posted two national Division III records in the indoor mile and the 3,000-meters as a senior. He was named the USTFCCCA Division III Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year this season and earned eight All-America citations during his career. He was also named to the All-Region team six times and was an All-NESCAC performer three times in cross country and four times on the track. In 2019, he was the NESCAC Cross Country Most Outstanding Performer after winning the men's race. He was also a two-time NESCAC Champion in the 1,500-meters and also won titles in the 5,000-meters and 800-meters during his career. He was the recipient of the Williams College Purple Key Award and the Outdoor Track & Field Plansky Award while also being the team MVP for men's cross country in 2019 and 2021.

When he wasn't running, Ryan taught a weekly science class to fourth-graders at Brayton Elementary School.

Will Solow, Colby Men's Nordic Skiing
Solow, a member of the Colby men's Nordic ski team, graduated magna cum laude and with distinction in both of his majors, mathematics and computer science. He was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and was a six-time Dean's List student as well as four-time USCSCA All-Academic selection.

He was a recipient of a DavisConnects Summer Internship and earned a National Science Foundation Scholarship and conducted research in cybersecurity at Montana State University in the Summer of 2021. Solow has been involved in several research endeavors throughout his academic career both at Colby and other institutions. He is planning to pursue a graduate degree in cognitive robotics.

Solow was honored with the 2021-22 Robert L. Whitmore Jr. Award, which is given to the Colby male athlete who excels in academics, athletics, and leadership. He was also awarded the Scott Bates Award, a men's Nordic skiing team honor, that is given for outstanding racing and leadership. In 2020-21, he helped the Mules qualify a full team for the NCAA Championships for the second time in program history. Solow was a two-year captain as a sophomore and junior and top performer of the team each of those seasons. He was a four-year member of the carnival racing team and was named the team's Rookie of the Year in 2018-19. Solow also competed in the US Junior Nationals where he was a four-time All-American and the recipient of the prestigious David J. Quinn Award in 2019. The honor is presented to one Nordic athlete for leadership, integrity, and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Solow also contributed to the Colby community outside of his research and athletic pursuits. He was a student advisor and teaching assistant in the Mathematics and Computer Science Departments, a member of the Colby SAAC, a first-year orientation leader, and a volunteer coach at the Quarry Road Ski Club. He was also a member of the Disability Awareness Board and an advocate for students with disabilities.
