ITA Women's Tennis All-American Awards Earned by Christensen, Rigby

MEDFORD - Junior Tilly Rigby (pictured, left) and freshman Elle Christensen (pictured, right) of the Tufts University women's tennis team have been named as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Americans for the 2021-22 season.

Christensen is one of 28 individuals announced as a singles All-American for Division III. She and Rigby are one of 21 pairs to achieve All-American status in doubles.

The All-American title is given to student-athletes who are a top-eight seed in the NCAA Singles Tournament, win one round at the NCAA Singles Tournament, finish in the Top 20 in the final ITA singles rankings, win the ITA Fall Regional Tournament, or win a first-round match at the ITA Cup. The All-American status is awarded to doubles teams that are a top-four seed in the NCAA Doubles Tournament, win one round at the NCAA Doubles Tournament, finish in the Top 10 in the final ITA doubles rankings, win the ITA Fall Regional Tournament, or win a first-round match at the ITA Cup.

Christensen won the NCAA Division III Singles Championship as an unseeded player this spring. That earned her the ITA's #1 ranking for singles at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. Christensen and Rigby were also unseeded in the NCAA Doubles Championship and went on to win the national title and earn the #1 final doubles ranking. They also won the ITA fall national championship and then earned a victory in the opening round of the ITA Cup.

The national honor is the second for Rigby and the first for Christensen. Rigby was a 2021 All-American in singles.

On the Tufts team coached by Kate Bayard, Christensen and Rigby helped Tufts finish with a 17-4 overall record (8-2 New England Small College Athletic Conference) and advance to the NCAA Tournament Regional final.
