MEDFORD - Junior Claire Brennan of the Tufts University women's swimming & diving team is one of four New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) student-athletes selected nationally to the 2022 Academic All-America® women's at-large team announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today.

A two-time NCAA champion in the 200 freestyle and as part of the 800 freestyle relay last March, Brennan is one of just 10 New England Division III individuals to receive this prestigious honor. She is on the third team, as 46 Division III student-athletes were recognized as Academic All-America® overall.

The award honors the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately names honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The At-Large teams are the most competitive to make due to the large number of sports from which nominees are taken. The Women's At-Large Team accepts nominations in beach volleyball, bowling, rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis and water polo.

Brennan is a rising senior with a double major in political science (Pre-Law track) and English. From Denver, her involvement at Tufts includes being a member of Tufts Pre-Law Society, Thalia (sorority), the Women's Network, the English Major Society and the Tufts Daily newspaper. She has also served as a national youth honoree for the Walk to Cure Arthritis, hosted fund-raisers and met with congressional representatives to discuss policy for the Arthritis community.

At the 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, Brennan's national title performances helped lead head coach Adam Hoyt's Tufts team to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA meet which was team's best since 1982. At the NESCAC meet, Brennan was part of two relay wins, was second individually in the 200 free and third in the 100 free as the Jumbos won their first-ever conference title. She had been an NCAA qualifier in 2020 as a freshman in the 100 free and with two relays before meet was canceled due to COVID-19.
