Currently on view on the main floor of Tisch Library, the exhibit highlights the lives and little-known stories of some of the earliest students of color at Tufts. One of the most important aspects of the SCL project is documenting the long presence of African-descended and Indigenous students on Tufts’ campus. By examining archival materials, personal accounts, and institutional records, the exhibit demonstrates the diversity of experiences and contributions of these students, highlighting their unsung achievements and collective impact on the university.  Deep Roots at Tufts showcases five of these students, featuring newly discovered stories and information about their lives. In doing so, Deep Roots at Tufts deepens our conversations about the past, present, and future of Tufts University.  The Slavery, Colonialism, and Their Legacies Project at Tufts University is a collaborative effort of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy, the Center for the Humanities at Tufts, and the Tufts Archival Research Center. Support for the project comes from the Office of the Provost. The exhibit can be found on the second (main) floor of Tisch Library in the atrium. An exhibit opening reception will be held at 4 p.m. on December 4 in the Learning and Teaching Commons, Tisch Library room 223.
