Dr. JoAnn Manson, MD, MPH, DrPH, will deliver this year’s lecture: “Novel Insights on Precision Nutrition from the VITAL and COSMOS Trials.” Dr. Manson is a Professor of Medicine and the Michael and Lee Bell Professor of Women’s Health at Harvard Medical School. Óscar Martínez is a renowned Salvadoran journalist and cofounder of El Faro, Latin America's first digital newspaper. He is dedicated to in-depth journalism on issues of migration, gang violence, and police and political corruption in Central America and has written many books on these topics, including A History of Violence: Living and Dying in Central America and most recently, Los muertos y el periodista. He is presently covering the administration of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele. Iván Espinoza is executive director of Lawyers for Civil Rights, Boston. His work is extremely diverse, and includes voting rights, racial and environmental justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and the intersectionality of civil rights, immigration, and public policy. He speaks nationally as an expert on legal protections for people of color and immigrants as well as on small business issues. Together Óscar and Iván will discuss the migrant experience, violence in Central America, censorship, and the making of a dictatorship in El Salvador and beyond. The talk will be in English and Spanish.
