This summer, the Tufts EWB Ecuador Chapter will be travelling to the community of Santa Estefania de Malta Pura in Ecuador to perform their initial assessment trip. A total of 6 Tufts students and 2 travel mentors will be on this trip. During the trip, the team will carry out the necessary water quality testing, topographical mapping, community surveying and discuss the water quality and quantity problems currently faced by the members of the community in order to gain a thorough understanding of the problem and work on developing an initial solution over the cource of the next academic year. Observed especially by the followers of the Shvetambara sect, Paryusana concludes on Samvatsari, the most solemn occasion of self-scrutiny and forgiveness. On this day, Jains ask for forgiveness from their relatives and friends for any offense they may have committed by deed, word or thought. Observances may include limits to participation in academics or work and may include fasting.
- All dayDas Laxana FestivalEvent Type: Multifaith Observance Event Sponsor: University Chaplaincy In the Paryusana Festival of Jain Digumbar Sect, this is 10-day festival that is considered to be a holy convocation. During these days, Jains impose some restraints on their daily activities by fasting, meditation and prayer. The last day of Paryusana is the most solemn occasion of forgiveness and the examination of one's own thoughts and feelings. On this day, Jains ask for forgiveness from their relatives and friends for any offense they may have committed by deed, word or thought. Observances may include limits to participation in academics or work and may include fasting.
